Karsten Warholm is not one of those guys that quietly stews in his own thoughts to prepare for one of the biggest moments of his life. He is loud, rambunctious, and not afraid to make some noise.
It also helps that he’s one of the best hurdlers in the world right now, and it all came to a peak on Monday in Tokyo.
To properly set the scene, we need to back up to 1992. American Kevin Young became the first athlete to run a sub-47 second 400 metre hurdle event. The World Record stood for an astonishing 29 years until Warholm finally broke it one month ago.
Freshly off his new World Record, Warholm went ahead and did it again. This time, it wasn’t even close.
Yep, 45.94! Warholm shaved 0.76 seconds off his own World Record, an unbelievable feat considering every fraction of a second is so hard to earn.
You already knew he was going to have an exuberant reaction, and the Norwegian did not disappoint. One massive jaw drop and a torn up shirt later, you’ve got yourself one shocked and elated gold medal winner.
Incredibly, Rai Benjamin also shattered Warholm’s World Record from a month ago. Unfortunately for the American, his time of 46.17 seconds just wasn’t going to beat Warholm’s latest run.
