Justin Tucker is the most accurate kicker in NFL history and he's also the most creative kicker in our books.
Sunday against Kansas City, the Ravens found themselves down by 5 points with 2:01 left in the 4th quarter. Baltimore had one timeout remaining, but they needed to get the ball back. Most would be thinking onside kick in that scenario, but Tucker tried something we've NEVER seen before.
So the onside dropkick kickoff didn't exactly work out, but the idea was good in theory. The kick was incredibly impressive, but the heads-up play by Mecole Hardman to call a fair catch was even more impressive, essentially negating any chance the Ravens had of recovering the football.
But what if that's what Tucker and the Ravens wanted the Chiefs to do (Yes, we're serious)? Think about it, by calling a fair catch, no time elapsed on the game clock, meaning KC would have had to run one more play before the two minute warning.
Baltimore could then stop the clock one more time with their timeout and potentially get the ball back with just over a minute left. Whatever way you look at the odd play, it was well worth the risk for more reasons than one.
