While we are all desperately longing for the return of our favourite sports, COVID-19 doesn’t care. Because of that, we need to put our wants aside and focus on our needs, which at the moment is to stay responsible with social distancing and not let our desires cloud over the hard truth.
While there is no timeline for an NHL return, there are rumblings as to how a return could possibly play out. In fact, the league was hoping to be in the clear for facilities to re-open as early as mid-may, but that’s still a rough plan that must adhere to the day-by-day nature of our situation.
With excitement beginning to brew, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed the press to reiterate the important hurdles the league must go through. While some may see returning NHL players as exceptions given the high public interest in play resuming, Trudeau confirms that there won’t be any shortcuts taken, and that proper protocol must continue.
While it’s always tough to hear that something you love is still a ways away, it’s important to remember that normalcy doesn’t necessarily come when you want it to.
