The Toronto Blue Jays are in a strange transitional time. After a star studded lineup failed to turn over a championship in recent years, the Jays’ brass decided to take the team in a different direction – a rebuild focused on developing the Jays’ young talent.

While names like Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, and Josh Donaldson were all part of the departure, Justin Smoak remained. He even developed into more of a star with his expanded role in the lineup, and he’s won his way into the hearts of Jays fans.

With a tear in their eye, the fans may have said goodbye to their staple. With Smoak potentially playing his last game as a Blue Jay, he stepped to the plate in possibly his final at-bat and delivered one more special moment.

Through a standing ovation, Smoak almost went yard. Instead he bounced it off the wall and found himself standing at 2nd base.

In a strange way, it almost seems more appropriate that he doubled, as he was then taken out of the game to the cheers of an even larger standing ovation.

These are the moments when you just have to love sports.
