It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for all season long after you realized your team is actually good this year. As a goaltender, you’ve carried your team to the promise land, and wouldn’t you know it, your team has won the championship of their respective league.
Over in Manitoba’s Junior B league, the Keystone Junior Hockey League, the Peguis Juniors defeated the St. Malo Warriors 4-3 in Game 5 to win the league champiobnship.
Like any team that is crowned league champs, the Juniors got to skate around and lift the KJHL trophy. Goaltender Luke Penner never lost in the post-season and put together an 8-0 record with a 2.50 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. Penner made 31 saves to help seal the deal for the Warriors, but it was a save that occurred in the post-game celebrations that caught our eyes.
Penner was handed the trophy and went to go for a little skate, before catching an edge. Out of desperation, Penner managed to keep the trophy in the air while he awkwardly fell to the ice right in front of his crease.
The Juniors goaltender was shown first hand why flat goalie skates aren’t the best to balance on if your body weight is shifted on your other leg.
Congrats to the Juniors, and let’s just hope Penner and the trophy are good to go.
