Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve got ourselves a series.
The Vegas Golden Knights responded in a huge way last night after falling 4-2 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final. Game 2 told a different story, as the team managed to quiet the fans at Bell MTS Place with a 3-1 heart-breaker on the road. The game’s hero came in the form of Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault, who found the back of the net twice in the win.
Marchessault has enjoyed a Cinderella year in Vegas. After the Florida Panthers inexplicably exposed him in the 2017 expansion draft, the 5’9 forward responded with a 27-goal campaign and was a key contributor to the Golden Knights’ Pacific Division title. Marchessault has just been one key contributer for the Golden Knights, who have been referred to recently as ‘the Golden Misfits’. After last night’s win, Marchessault used the perfect words to describe his team.
No one could have possibly foreseen Vegas’ success this season. They entered the year with the worst odds of winning the Stanley Cup at 200-1 and are now just seven games away from battling for one. Marchessault’s teammate, Swedish forward William Karlsson, is another player who was seemingly looking for the right home. After recording no more than 25 points in two season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, ‘Wild Bill’ finished third in league scoring with 43.

There’s nothing more these misfits would like to do more than bring a championship to their new home. They’ll look to take a series lead against the Jets on Wednesday night at home.
