Golf is a game of moments and inches, where a slightly different club can make all the difference. Sometimes it’s in the swing, sometimes it’s in the lie, but often times it’s in the choice a golfer makes before they even step up to the ball.
That’s why professional golfers have caddies. It’s not just someone to carry the golf bag around, it’s someone to confer with and weigh options. More often than not, the golfer and caddie will be in agreeance. Sometimes the golfer feels something different and goes his or her own way about it. That’s how a healthy relationship is formed.
Unfortunately, Rahm is probably wishing he had listened to his caddie, Adam Hayes, during the 11th hole of the 2019 Players Championship. It may have ended a whole lot differently.
Sometimes that’s the way it goes, and you can’t regret following your instinct. Who knows, maybe it would have gone into the water anyway. They only thing we know for sure is that the shot definitely could not have gone any worse.
While going against your caddie’s advice isn’t something to be completely belittled for, the internet didn’t take long to start making fun of the blown hole. Others hopped to the defence of Rahm.
