The UFC is chalked full of rivalry and trash talk. Ahead of major events, you can find just about 1,000 clips of each fighter chirping the other, as it adds to the drama, the passion, and the emotion once Bruce Buffer finally steps up to the microphone.

Even by UFC standards, there are many rivalries more bitter than the Jon Jones/Daniel Cormier hate-fest. These two have gone toe-to-toe twice in the octagon, with Jones emerging victorious in both contests (although one was overturned after Jones failed a drug test). Before Stipe Miocic defeated Cormier this month, Jones was the only one to have a W in the decision column when fighting Cormier.

Even though they’ve only squared off twice, it’s felt like many more times solely based on how much these two despise each other. While it is definitely one of the biggest individual rivalries in sports, the chirping subsided at the news of Cormier’s father passing, and Jones sent along a classy message to his bitter foe.

Some things are bigger than sports, and this is certainly one of those occasions.

Soon enough the rivalry should be firing at all cylinders again.
