On Thursday night in Calgary, John Tortorella made history by becoming the winningest coach in Columbus Blue Jackets history by notching his 128 win behind the bench.

With his team nursing a 3-0 lead with just under five minutes left to play in the second period, a puck was shot over the glass behind Torts and the Blue Jackets bench. A young Flames fan managed to come away with the puck, and we all know there’s nothing quite like getting ahold of a game souvenir when you’re a kid.

To make it even better, the Jackets head coach clearly heard the excitement coming from the other side of the glass. Torts then turned around and acknowledged the little guy, and his reaction is fantastic.

Check out the big grin on Torts’ face afterwards.

It’s great to see one of the most fiery personalities in the game of hockey show his soft side. It’s pretty amazing what a simple acknowledgment from person like Tortorella can do for a young fan of the game.

You can beat he’ll remember this moment for the rest of his life.
