The Columbus Blue Jackets fell to the Chicago Blackhawks in dramatic and controversial fashion tonight, when the Jackets came up short in a 3-2 shootout loss to Chicago.
The loss came on the heels of a wild sequence that saw Chicago take a too many men penalty with 19.2 seconds left in overtime, where the off ice officials ran the clock for an extra 1.1 seconds. When the Blue Jackets' Zach Werenski scored the game winning goal at the buzzer, it was waved off, found to have been scored less than a second after the clock had expired. The wasted time lead to a shootout that not only saw Columbus lose, but also saw their starting goaltender, Joonas Korpisalo, go down and leave with an injury.
Unfortunate series of events, to say the least.
Blue Jackets head coach John Tortotella had some very strong opinions on the loss, and he stormed out of his post-game press conference after sharing them.
We can definitely sympathize with the frustrations of losing both a game and a goalie in a situation you didn't have to be in, and we definitely weren't expecting Torts to stay quiet about it.
