There are not many people around the sport of hockey quite as unapologetically blunt as fiery bench boss John Tortorella. The Columbus Blue Jackets head coach has never been shy of saying EXACTLY what he’s feeling at any given moment, and the result has been some of the more entertaining press conference rants the NHL has seen.
Unfortunately for Torts, it’s also resulted in some fines.
Tortorella has been fined $20,000 and $30,000 in the past, and has also received a couple suspensions after public tirades before. Perhaps this is the reason why Torts decided to apologize for his conduct after an overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, or perhaps he’s actually turned a new leaf.
The rant was to do with the game clock operator allowing 1.1 seconds to come off the clock after the whistle had been blown. His ire goes beyond just one person though, he also rips into the officials for “not doing their job” and to Toronto for stubbornly allowing a missed moment to happen.
It was definitely one of the most fired up we’ve seen Torts, if not the most.
