Fans couldn’t be any more excited to see John Tavares in Toronto, and the early results have stoked the hype. In an electrifying 7-6 overtime win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night, Tavares already has his first hat trick in a Leafs uniform, needing just three games to hit the milestone.
As the NHL points out, Tavares actually joins a rather exclusive club of Leafs to introduce themselves with big games. The last player before Tavares on this list should get fans especially fired up — and that’s TSN’s own Jeff O’Neill making an appearance as well.
Not every game will be a blistering 13-goal shootout, but with the kind of scoring talent that the Leafs have right now, it sure seems like these games are going to be entertaining they watch. Of course, the team has a few issues to keep track of, but with Tavares lighting the way, the outlook is good for the Leafs.
Auston Matthews potted two goals himself againts the Blackhawks, including one in the final minute that prompted a celebration taken right out of Hulk Hogan’s playbook — but, after coming back with the equalizer seconds later, Patrick Kane got the last word in when he mimicked Matthews’ celly.
