Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares suffered a scary injury in the 1st period of playoffs when he took an incidental Corey Perry knee to the head. The scene was pretty horrifying for hockey fans to watch unfold, and everyone was pretty relieved to see Tavares give the thumbs up as he was stretchered off the ice.

Since then, JT has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support shown towards him, his family, and his foundation. Leafs fans have done everything they can to support their captain, and it’s clearly touched Tavares in an immeasurable way.

In order to pay the gratitude forward, Tavares and his wife Aryne shared a message through their foundation. They thanks fans for all the support through tough times, and specifically pointed out how much had been contributed to the John Tavares Foundation in support of the Special Olympics and kids in need.

John and Aryne pledge to match donations given up to $50,000 in an attempt to pay forward the gratitude. While nobody would wish a serious head injury on anyone, it is always nice to see communities rally in support as a result.

Get well soon, John!
