Joe Sakic’s transition from player to GM wasn't without its hiccups (We’re looking at you Patrick Roy), but after building a team primed for years of competitiveness, he’s looking very wise… and sounding very wise.
Sakic and the Avalanche just completed a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and while there have been arguments in favour of both sides, in the end it is a deal that seems to fit some positional needs for both camps. But one question remained for some reporters – specially about Nazem Kadri’s temperament. Sakic had a pretty easy (albiet, tongue-in-cheek) solution for Kadri to avoid suspensions in the future: Don’t play Boston.
That is a nearly perfect plan other than the fact that it could backfire at the worst possible time. They obviously won’t have to play Boston until the Stanley Cup Final at the soonest, but that is a pretty important time to have your best players.
All jokes aside, we’re sure Kadri and the Avs will be very motivated throughout the season and will keep things under control.
We know one night that they’ll be very motivated, because Kadri already has it circled on his calendar.
