No one was more shocked about the Jimmy Butler trade last offseason than Jimmy Butler himself.

Although the Houston, Texas native was selected to three straight NBA All-Star Games, the Chicago Bulls felt it was time to move on and go in a different direction as they traded Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves, along with Justin Patton’s rights, in exchange for Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the rights to Lauri Markkanen.

Rather than dwell on the deal and try to figure out why he was shipped out of town, the 28-year-old quickly embraced his role on his new team and got right to work. This season, Butler picked up where he left off last season with the Bulls and helped turn the Timberwolves into a playoff team.

However, the T-Wolves suffered a massive blow on Friday night as their team leader in points and assists per game suffered a torn meniscus and is set to miss 4-to-6 weeks of action.

While an injury as severe as a torn meniscus would leave most guys off their feet and in bed for a while, Butler was back on his feet less than 24 hours as he came through for a young fan whose dream was to meet Butler.

Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Minnesota Timberwolves, Matthew Long, a huge Jimmy Butler fan from Seattle, got to meet his hero ahead of the Timberwolves’ game against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night.

The young fan also went home with some gifts as Butler surprised him with a brand new jersey and a pair of Jordan 32s.
