A landmark moment is U.S. hockey history, the Miracle on Ice game — as coined by broadcaster Al Michaels in the dying seconds of the game — featured a dramatic clash between the United States and Soviet Union during the 1980 Winter Olympics, with the U.S. coming from behind to win and eventually claim the gold medal as Olympic hosts.

Just how much does some game-worn memorabilia from the Miracle on Ice go for? Well, as we found out, a hefty chunk. U.S. starting goalie Jim Craig's skates sold for a whopping $97,710 at auction!

First thought: Skate technology has come so, so far since 1980. Those don’t look at all comfortable!

Craig played a crucial role for the Americans in those Olympics, stopping 36 of 39 shots against the Soviets and being captured in a historic photo with the American flag draped over his shoulders after finally capturing gold.

Earlier this year, on February 22nd, Craig and the American team celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice.
