Canada’s only hope of bringing the Stanley Cup home came to an unfortunate end on Sunday afternoon after the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final.
The 2017-18 campaign marked the best in Jets franchise history and a huge step forward for the organization. The team well exceeded expectations and have established themselves as a should-be contender for the coming years. With the Cup in sight, fans expressed all sorts of feelings on social media, though most made sure to congratulate the team on a phenomenal season.
After a promising Game 1 victory in which they blew out Vegas 4-1, Winnipeg couldn’t seem to get anything going from that point forward. Four consecutive losses led to their demise, as they only managed to muster six goals over that stretch.
After today’s loss, it’s likely that team captain Blake Wheeler and his teammates already have their mind set on next year’s Stanley Cup.
