Jesperi Kotkaniemi's fight with Robert Hagg on Thursday night wasnβt just the 19-year-oldβs first fight in the NHL β it was his first fight during a hockey game ever.
Kotkaniemi challenged Hagg after the Flyers defenceman hit Ryan Poehling from behind. It definitely won him some points among his teammates, and even the team was having some fun with his first fight on Twitter.
Not everyone was so pleased to see Kotkaniemi chucking knuckles, though. He told reporters on Saturday that he got a scolding from his grandmother over text.
Kotkaniemi held his own pretty well against the 24-year-old Hagg, which might have come as a surprise for his first career fight.
He can definitely pat himself on the back for that β especially since heβs being a little more self-deprecating about his own faceoff skills.
