A whirlwind offseason for the Carolina Hurricanes continues, as on Thursday, they traded playmaking forward Jeff Skinner to the Buffalo Sabres for 2016 draftee Cliff Pu and draft picks.
Not just a talented playmaking forward, Skinner is also a career-long member of the Hurricanes, having been a part of the team since they drafted him with the seventh overall pick in 2010. In the aftermath of the trade, he was sure to thank the only organization he’s known in his career yet.
It’s a relatively wholesome end to the relationship between team and player. With Skinner’s contract expiring after the upcoming season and Hurricanes GM Don Waddell expressing no interest in discussing an extension, it could’ve been a much messier affair.
Still, not every take has been so rosy, and the Hurricanes have stirred quite a bit of controversy with their trades of stars such as Skinner, Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm. Former NHLer Paul Bissonette chimed in, as he often does, in some rather crude language, as he often does.
