Jayson Werth was teammates with Bryce Harper for six seasons in Washington, but before that he had played for three other teams: Toronto, Los Angeles (Dodgers) and Philadelphia.

Obviously one of the big topics of discussion leading up to the end of the MLB season will be Bryce Harper’s free agency, especially with the Nationals struggling to get a hold of a playoff position. There seems to have been a kind of power shift in the MLB this year where some younger more promising teams have emerged as contenders.

Is it possible that Harper goes to one of those teams? Well, apparently he’s already asked Jayson Werth about one of them.

Werth played his best years in Philadelphia, so it would make sense for Harper to ask him about it, but clearly Werth was pretty fond of Washington as well – having spent the final six years of his career there. Still, it’s interesting to imagine Philadelphia as a realistic option to sign Harper.

Their team is starting to emerge as a contender, they have less big-money contracts than the Nationals currently (Strasburg and Scherzer), so they may feel like they can offer a bigger deal.

It’s always hard to imagine stars of Harpers impact leaving their team, which is why news like this is always interesting to hear.
