The NBA’s All-Star skills contest is one that puts a player’s ball-handling and passing skills to the test; of course because of that, it tends to go to the point guards.
Facing off against Trae Young in the final, however, Celtics forward Jayson Tatum was able to pull off an incredible, and literal, come-from-behind win. Trailing Young with only the three-point shooting drill left to go, Tatum pulled up for a shot from half-court. Did he call bank on this? Doesn’t matter, because he got the win.
What a shot, and what confidence to go for it. Young is a deadly outside shooter, so Tatum must not have wanted to give him any extra chances.
Tatum joins the Nets’ Joe Harris from the three-point contest and the Thunder’s Hamidou Diallo from the slam dunk contest as Saturday’s winners — the latter paid homage to Vince Carter’s legendary elbow dunk with a souped-up copy, jumping over Shaq for added flair.
