Football is an impassioned sport to say the least. In a game where you’re matching up strength, toughness, aggression, among other elements, it’s easy to let emotions boil over from time to time.
That was certainly the case in Sunday’s game between the New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears. A seemingly innocent play resulted in a very confusing scene at first, but then we later found out why.
Facing the complete opposite direction, C.J. Gardner-Johnson was suddenly the victim of a seemingly random sucker punch from Javon Wims. Take a look…
After the 1st punch, it looked like Gardner-Johnson was genuinely confused about what was happening. Then Wims swung again.
Luckily for cameras, because on a previous play the broadcast caught Gardner-Johnson reaching into the facemask of Bears receiver Anthony Miller.
We’re guessing that this is what Wims was reacting to, because there didn’t seem to be any reason on the play ahead of the fight.
Wims understandably got ejected from the game, and we may see further discipline than that.
It's not Gardner-Johnson's first altercation of the year, he also reportedly got into it with teammate Michael Thomas earlier in the year.
