Stolen bases can be a great source of baseball drama -- can the runner beat the throw to the baseman, or will they be caught out? -- but this steal, from Javier Baez of the Chicago Cubs, was a bit more resourceful than most similar plays.
You might not see it right away on a first glance, but evidently, neither did the man on second base. Stick with this to the replay:
How about that fake-out? The decision to slide his outside arm around to the base was effective, and more importantly, extremely dope.
Of course, that’s nothing new for Baez, who has made something of a reputation in delivering dope slides. Prompted to give their favourite Baez slide, the Chicago Cubs’ Twitter account dug up this gem from a 2017 game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
We’re here for more of this good Baez content in the baserunning department.\
