Jason Spezza is 37 years... young, apparently.
It was just a few weeks ago that Spezza was placed on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs for cap purposes. Who could have thought that the veteran would have himself a hat trick not too long after that?!
In just 12:17 of ice time, Spezza led the Leafs with three goals in their win against the Vancouver Canucks. It’s been almost five years since his last hat trick in the NHL (April 9, 2016) and with this performance, Spezza actually becomes the second oldest player in Leafs history to record a hat trick.
Vintage Jason Spezza came to play on Thursday, that’s for sure.
It’s just too bad Leafs fans weren’t able to pack Scotiabank Arena for this performance, because we’re sure the building would’ve been rocking for a Jason Spezza hattie in 2021. Still, we’re sure that Spezza enjoyed himself in this one.
