There was a period of time where the Philadelphia Flyers looked like they could be in contention to make a post-season push after a porous first half.
Carter Hart was called up and providing the goaltending the Flyers franchise has so desperately needed. Hart played a huge part in helping the club go 19-5-2 from January 10th to March 11th, despite missing some time on the injured reserve.
But in mid-March, when the team needed to find another gear if they wanted to have post-season aspirations, the club cooled off, and have just two wins to show for over their last seven games.
In their latest loss on Sunday, the Flyers playoff hopes were all but ended after falling to the New York Islanders 4-2 and the Washington Capitals 3-1 in back-to-back games over the weekend. Jakob Voracek, one of the team's longest-serving members, blasted his team's efforts in the loss to the Caps and over the last little while.
"We had a good push, but unfortunately, anytime we got close - three points, five points - and we played those big teams in front of us (in) those four-point games, we choked," explained Voracek to Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"We couldn't find a way to win those big games, and that's why we are where we are right now."
Currently, eight points out of a playoff spot, have just six games remaining and will need the miracle of all miracle to play playoff hockey. That quest will begin Wednesday when they welcome the Leafs to the Wells Fargo Center.
