After getting his start in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues when they selected him in the 2008 NHL Draft, Jake Allen is heading to a new team for the first time in his career.
On Wednesday, the Montreal Canadiens acquired Allen and a seventh round pick from the Blues in exchange for a third and seventh round draft pick. Allen will be the Habs’ new back-up goaltender to Carey Price.
Allen’s career in St. Louis culminated in a Stanley Cup last year, and he has had the support of Blues fans for many years while starting a life of his own during his tenure with the team.
He shared a heartfelt letter thanking the organization and its fans for their support over the years, taking note of their role in everything he’s been able to accomplish over the last 12 years in St. Louis.
Going forward, Allen is excited to join the Habs and don that "beautiful, historic red sweater," but it’s clear that he’ll be missed in his old stomping grounds as well.
