Jacob deGrom has been one of the best pitchers in baseball throughout his major league career as his worst season to date would be considered a career-year for most pitchers.

This season the reigning NL MVP and two-time NL Cy Young Award winner is proving just that more than ever as he’s off to a historic start to the season for the Mets.

On Friday, deGrom struck out 15 batters in the Mets’ 6-0 win and he became the second-fastest pitcher in MLB history to hit the 1,400 career strikeout mark by doing it in just 187 games.

The Mets’ ace also reached the 50 strikeout mark in just his 4th start of the season, giving him the record for most strikeouts by a player through their first four starts since 1900, and he tied the record for most consecutive games with 14 or more strikeouts.

deGrom got the job done at the plate on Friday, as well, as he finished the night 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, which now gives him more RBI than earned runs allowed on the season.

With Friday’s win, deGrom improves to 2-1 with 50 strikeouts in 29 innings pitched this season and has a 0.31 ERA and a 0.55 WHIP through his first four starts of the season.
