Sports fans will buy anything that will get them closer to the game and their favourite athletes and game-worn jerseys are in that 'anything' category.
There's really nothing more authentic than having a jersey your favourite player wore during a big game, but for a jersey of this stature, you have to pay a pretty penny to make it yours.
Usually game-worn jerseys from big names go for a lot of money, but recently we saw a jersey from J.R. Smith go for a pretty crazy amount of money and it's not just any jersey that was auctioned off by NBA Auctions.
You'd think there wouldn't be much of a market for J.R. game-worn jerseys, but the jersey was from Game 1 of the NBA Finals and we all know what happened in that game.
When the auction closed, the jersey had sold for nearly $24,000 which is pretty insane.
To put the price into perspective, Kevin Love's jersey from that same game, sold for just $4520. Clear overpay for Smith's jersey wouldn't you say?
Possibly, but that play will be shown for the rest of time, so the price could actually increase if the person that bought it decides to go that route.
