Late last year, it was announced that the Islanders and Sabres would play a preseason game in Oshawa on September 28th.

At the time, there were a number of players in the Islanders' organization that had played for the Oshawa Generals back in the day such as Cal Clutterbuck, Calvin de Hann, Michael Dal Colle, Mitchell Vande Sompel, and John Tavares.

Now, though, Tavares and de Hann are gone, which is very unfortunate considering the main reason the city pushed for the game was Tavares, as per DurhamRegion.com:

“I think JT having a retired jersey here and being a hometown favourite was obviously a major factor for everybody involved,” said Rocco Tullio, president and governor of the Generals. “We did everything possible to have this game hosted here.”

With the game being a couple of days away, the hockey world couldn't help but talk about the fact that Tavares won't be there, making Islanders fans even more sad.
