The Buffalo Sabres stand as one of the few NHL teams without a captain, but that can all change in the near future.
The team has been without a leader since 2017 after Brian Gionta left town, but now have a series of candidates to take over the role. Former captain Jason Pominville is back with the club, while defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen also remains an option. But of the bunch, the logical choice seems to be 2015 second overall pick Jack Eichel.

Well that pretty much sums it up!
It remains unclear whether Eichel will be hitting the ice with a ‘C’ on his chest, but we are sure he’ll be rocking a new number. Earlier in the summer, he let his fans know that he’ll be wearing ‘9’ instead of his regular ‘15’.
With Casey Mittelstadt and Rasmus Dahlin expected to make the club in October, hockey fans could be in for a treat from the perennially bland Sabres.
