The hockey world received some tragic news on Wednesday, as Hurricanes’ Erik Haula and his wife Kristen announced the loss of their unborn daughter on Instagram.
The couple has chosen to make the news public, and in the comments, people are sharing similar stories of their own while expressing their support for the Haulas.
“While it’s not what is best for everyone, it personally feels best for us to share,” writes Kristen. “After feeling amazing my entire pregnancy... at our ultrasound on Monday our sweet baby girl had lost her strong heartbeat. While it may be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel on some days going forward, and some may be harder than others to understand why this happened, the complete joy & excitement she has brought to us and those who love her will be with us forever.”
From Erik's post, it appears he played his most recent game on Tuesday with "RIP 12/30/19" etched on his stick tape in his daughter's memory; he went on to record a goal and an assist against the Montreal Canadiens.
This is heartbreaking news, but the Haulas have the support of many fans and fellow NHLers even just on Instagram alone, and there’s always something to be said for the hockey world will rally around of its own during times like these.
“Our baby girl gone way too soon. Mommy & Daddy will always love you and we cannot wait to hold you one day in heaven,” writes Erik on Instagram.
Since being traded to the Hurricanes in the offseason, Haula has 11 goals and 6 assists in 21 games this season.
