Pedro Martinez is one of the most dominating pitchers the baseball world ever encountered.
The Red Sox Hall of Famer went 219-100 over his career with 3,154 strikeouts and managed to lead the majors in ERA in five different seasons. He played a pivotal role in helping the BoSox capture their first World Series in 86 years when the team won the 2004 World Series.
A three-time Cy-Young winner, Pedro holds the franchise record in strikeouts per nine innings (11.0) as well as opponent batting average at a daunting .206.
What made the Red Sox ace so spectacular was his ability to seamlessly throw his fastball, curveball and changeup with such confidence and precision.
Thanks to Rob Friedman, also known as the “Pitching Guru” on Twitter, he have a batter’s view of Pedro’s fastball. Have you ever imagined what it would be like to stand in a batter’s box with one of the best hurlers of all-time bringing the heat? Well, here you go.
Gas, pure gas. How is anyone supposed to hit something like touches the upper 90’s and is painted perfectly at the edge of the strike zone?
A hitter has less than a quarter of a second to spot the pitch, and about 150 milliseconds to swing his bat in time to make contact. Then, imagine a curveball or changeup coming on the next pitch and completely throwing you out of tune.
Now that’s why Pedro make everyone his daddy.
