The last word any hockey player wants to hear during a playoff run is the word “golf”.
Though most participate in the sport over the offseason, grabbing clubs and hitting the greens means a player is no longer striving for a championship. The Los Angeles Kings can typically be found on the rink at this time of year, but their 2018 campaign was cut short after being swept by the Vegas Golden Knights in four straight. In response to the loss, the team’s Twitter account poked some fun at itself by adding a subtle change to its name. If you try typing in the Kings on Twitter, a small golfing emoji pops up right beside its name.
The Kings’ account has been known to have some fun in the past. This past December, its team members brought back an old Tweet to roast the St. Louis Blues after the Rams re-located in the National Football League. They also made sure to remind them about each team’s Stanley Cup count.
More recently, they posted a picture of star defenceman Drew Doughty with back-to-back Art Ross Trophy winner Connor McDavid.
With their team out of contention, it’s nice to see the Kings are able to poke fun at themselves. After winning two cups since 2012, playing some golf early in the offseason shouldn’t be seen as the end of the world.
