The Washington Capitals are gearing up for their biggest game in the Alex Ovechkin era, but head coach Barry Trotz is doing everything he can to keep his team loose.
Earlier in the postseason, Caps captain Alex Ovechkin started a unique tradition in which he skates a hot lap at the beginning of practice. But since the team lost its last road game, they felt a shakeup was in order. So, Trotz stepped up and skated his hardest around the rink. After completing the loop, he provided a hilarious play-by-play for it following practice.
“The rutters haven’t been sharpened all year”. Not a bad way to describe your blades! In case you missed it, here’s what the 55-year-old looked like in action.
Despite his relatively slow speed, Ovechkin was impressed with his coach’s performance, describing it as “fast”.
Washington is 7-2 in the playoffs heading into tonight’s matchup and will need their top dogs to get it done for them in what should be a bumpin’ Amalie Arena. It’s just too bad they can’t have their head coach out there on the ice with them while the action unfolds.
Will they pull through?
