Seth Jones still has a year left on his remaining contract but he was one of the biggest names on the market this summer with news that he wasn’t planning on re-signing in Columbus next offseason.
Well, he officially came off the market about an hour before the 2021 NHL Entry Draft got underway as he was dealt to the Chicago Blackhawks in a deal that sent Adam Boqvist the other way and flipped around a bunch of draft picks.
A lot of fans felt that the return for Jones was way too much but they probably forgot all about that after they found out that Chicago plans on extending Jones’ contract for another eight years once the window opens up next Wednesday.
The average annual value on Jones’ new contract will be just under $10 million per year and will keep him in Chicago until his mid-thirties. Jones scored 20 goals and 58 points over the past two seasons after tallying 28 goals and 99 points from 2016-2018.
What do you think about the deal?
