The 2018 NHL postseason is just over halfway done, but former netminder Ilya Bryzgalov already has his Stanley Cup champion picked.
After the Capitals gained an early lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning, the animated goaltender expressed his belief that the Washington Capitals will be awarded this year’s championship trophy.
Since entering the league in the 1974-75 season, Washington has yet to hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup. Their closest season came in 1998 when they fell to the Detroit Red Wings 4-0 in the Final. However, their confidence is at an all-time high after the team finally managed to knock off the back-to-back champion Pittsburgh Penguins. 2018 marks the first year the Caps have reached the conference final during the Ovechkin era.
Bryz doesn’t tweet much, but he has shared some hilarious ones during this year’s postseason. After Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Brian Elliott was lit up in his team's series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Bryz made sure to remind his former squad that he was ready for action. He then attended one of their home games just in case.
After a strong two opening periods against Tampa Bay, Washington is poised to take a 1-0 series lead. Bryz could look like the smartest guy on the internet if the Caps can continue their dominant play.
