Jaromir Jagr has likely seen his last puck drop in the NHL (we are not saying never, though…), but his legacy as a Father Time combatant continues to live on in truly entertaining ways. One of those ways in through a streak that has reached an unbelievable 41 years.
The last 41 Stanley Cup Final matchups have featured at least one player that has called Jaromir Jagr a teammate at some point.
Over his career, Jagr played for the Penguins, Capitals, Rangers, Flyers, Stars, Bruins, Devils, Panthers, and Flames. Needless to say, he racked up a lot of teammates over that span.
Last year, we wrote about the streak reaching 40 years. The article included a list compiled by u/ridingmissdaisy that outlined each Jagr teammate that played in the Final between 1980 and 2019:
In fact, 1986 was the only year that a Jagr teammate didn’t WIN the Cup.
The streak continued in 2020, with Braydon Coburn winning the Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning. On losing Dallas Stars side, Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, and Anton Khudobin all played on Jagr’s team as well.
Now we’re in 2021, and Braydon Coburn is no longer on the Tampa Bay Lightning. Luckily the streak continues thanks to the Montreal Canadiens acquiring Jon Merrill at the deadline from the Detroit Red Wings. Merrill played alongside Jagr in New Jersey for two seasons.
For the record, we knew this streak was going to continue last round anyway. Jonathan Marchessault and Reilly Smith both played with Jagr for a year in Florida. Is it possible this streak… never ends?
