Things are pretty busy in the world of sports right now.

The FIFA World Cup is back, the US Open just concluded, and 31 NHL teams will invite new members onto their respective organizations this Friday night. But all of it seems insignificant when you compare it to what went down 24 years ago to the day.

In what has become known as arguably the most action packed 24 hours in sports history, June 17, 1994 will forever be remembered for the completely bizarre events that happened to fall on it.

Here's a look at how things unfolded.

THE O.J. SIMPSON CHASE

Believe it or not, it was 24 years ago today that Pro Football Hall of Fame running back O.J. Simpson was the subject of a car chase for the ages. The news was so big that a telecast of Game 5 of the NBA Finals left midway to capture the chase. Simpson and his driver Al Cowlings were on the road for more than two hours.

On this date in 1994, the O.J. Simpson car chase occurred.

ESPN’s 30 for 30 brilliantly documents the events in their piece “June 17th, 1994”. The film includes plenty of live action from the day.

June 17, 1994 is remembered primarily as the day on which O.J. hit the highways. But just know that a whole lot of other stuff went down in the sports world on that day, too.
