It’s been a roller-coaster eight months for longtime NHL goalie Henrik Lundqvist after announcing in December that he would have to undergo open heart surgery. It derailed Lundqvist’s next hockey chapter and prevented him from ever suiting up in a game with the Washington Capitals, which would have been the first team he’s played for beyond the New York Rangers.
Now that Lundqvist’s one-year contract with the Caps has expired, it’s unclear whether we’ll ever see Lundqvist in a non-Rangers jersey. One thing’s for sure, though… The King won’t be held back easily!
Throughout his recovery process, Lundqvist has shared updates with fans through his social media accounts. He was actually back on the ice as early as February (incredible considering the surgery was in January), although a setback in his recovery eliminated the possibility that he’d be able to join the Caps.
Now, Lundqvist is strapping them up once again! Currently a free agent, Lundqvist isn’t sure what’s next for his hockey career, but he certainly seems to be enjoying this moment.
Lundqvist is one of those guys that is just impossible to feel any ill-will towards. Even this heartwarming update came just days after King Henry announced that his foundation would be helping to secure $100,000 in donations to organizations battling food insecurities around New York.
Wishing nothing but the best for The King!
