March Madness is all about the moments of glory where heroes step up and drain shots in the clutch. The celebrations, the raw joy, and moving onto the next step is what it’s all about. The other side, however, is the heartbreak.

Losing and being ousted from the tournament is heartbreaking no matter what. Add in that it happened in the Final Four and it’s even harder to accept. On top of that, you were an underdog team with National Championship dreams just moments away.

Welcome to Auburn.

The Auburn basketball team enjoyed a Cinderella run to the Final Four, beating powerhouse teams such as Kansas, North Carolina, and Kentucky along the way. All of those were higher seeds out of the Midwest Region.

Then they found themselves face to face with the No. 1 seed in the South, Virginia. They were OH SO close to beating them too if it weren’t for a pesky foul being called.

The foul led to Kyle Guy sinking three straight free throws to take the lead, a lead that they wouldn’t give up. For Auburn fans, the heartbreak came as a slow burn. They didn’t realize they’d lost it yet, and their celebrations turned into heartbreak in a hurry.
