Twitter is a fantastic place where professional athletes can grow their brand away from the sport by interacting with their biggest fans.
But sometimes, Twitter isn’t a great place to spend your time if you’re an athlete, as there’s really no filter on what can be said. In Canada, the sport of hockey dominates the Twittersphere, with active, educated fans expressing their thoughts on their favourite teams and players. If a team or certain player isn’t playing up to standards, then the Twitter folk will let them hear it.
You’ve probably heard of the popular “mean tweets” segment that first originated on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live.’ The exercise has made its way into the sporting world, and on Friday, Brendan Gallagher, Paul Byron, Jonathan Drouin, Andrew Shaw and owner Geoff Molson read some out of online chirps on latest segment of Habs TV.
From breakaway mishaps, to celebrity doppelgangers, and facial chirps here’s the latest “Habs read mean tweets” video.
Watch out, Danny All-Star!
The Montreal hockey market is arguably the toughest in all of hockey, so with the team underperforming this season, its understandable why the Habs have been the subject of many tweets coming out of La Belle Province, hence why the Habs have done this segment before.
Remember kids, whatever is said on the internet can live forever, so be careful what you say.
