Despite announcing his retirement from mixed martial arts, rumours swirled in the MMA world that Georges St. Pierre would be making a return to the octagon to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Khabib reportedly pushed for a fight against GSP, with an alleged clause in his new UFC contract that would allow him to fight the French-Canadian.

GSP was interested, too, but unfortunately for fighting fans, the UFC was not. The UFC was worried about the possibility of GSP winning the fight and then subsequently retiring again, a risk that Dana White and the company wanted to avoid.

Speaking with TSN UFC reporter Aaron Bronsteter, the 38-year-old expressed a desire to fight Khabib, but doubled down that he's staying retired with the proposed match no longer viable.

It was on my mind when I retired, I really wanted to do it,” St-Pierre said to Bronsteter. “But now, telling you the truth, UFC were clear, they had other plans for Khabib. So I turned a page. I cannot wait for the fight to happen and twiddle my thumb, I have other plans for my life. Being the best fighter in the world is not my number one priority anymore. It used to be, now it’s not. I have family, friends, I have a lot of more important things to do. I have other projects down the road.”

"I'm always training, I'm always in great shape, I will always be, but competition, for me, it's a chapter of my life that is over," explained GSP to Bronsteter.

St-Pierre's last fight was back on November 4, 2017, when he pinned Michael Bisping to take the middleweight belt.

In 28 career matches, the Montreal product finished 26-2, including eight knockouts, six submissions and 12 decisions.
