Have you ever heard of a goaltender scoring a double-overtime game-winning goal?
Of course not, because that's about one of the most unimaginable things in hockey
Most leagues across the hockey landscape are approaching the stretch run of games where every point matters as teams try to climb up the standings in their respective leagues. In the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, shootouts do not exist. After two overtime periods, any game that is still even will result in a tie. Teams that lose in overtime are granted a single point, while the winner walks away with two.
During Friday night's Jr. B game between the Komoka Kings and St. Thomas Stars, the Kings decided to gamble for it in the second period of OT in a 0-0 tie by pulling their goalie for the 4-on-3.
As the extra attacker stepped onto the ice, St. Thomas goaltender Anthony Hurtubise made a glove save and immediately threw the puck down. Then, the unthinkable happened.
Hurtubise pulled off a feat that's may've never been done in the history of the sport by firing the puck down the ice to notch the over-time winner while simultaneously earning a shutout.
The 20-year-old from Sarnia, Ontario turned aside 27 saves to go along with the game-winning goal and was surely named that game's first star in the 1-0 win.
Have you ever seen such a thing?
