The 2K curse has struck once again as the Toronto Raptors dealt DeMar DeRozan to the San Antonio Spurs early Wednesday morning. The 28-year-old shooting guard didn’t grace the cover of the international version of the game, but he did grace the cover of the Canadian edition of the game, making it five cover athletes over the past four years that have joined a new team the following season.
It all started after LeBron James left the Miami Heat for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and was followed up by Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors, Paul George to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics, and now DeMar DeRozan to the San Antonio Spurs. However, while the NBA 2K curse appears to be in full force, this year’s cover athlete Giannis Antetokounmpo reassured Bucks fans that he’s not going to follow in their footsteps.
DeRozan was the only one of the five cover athletes who didn’t move on by choice, but Antetokounmpo wanted to let fans know his intentions are to be a member of the Bucks for life.
