The NHL will begin the new year with its 2019 Winter Classic game, seeing the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins face off inside the 80,795-seat Notre Dame Stadium. Of course a highly anticipated event every year, this should be no different — and the forecast suggests the possibility of some light snow.
While both teams decided to move their scheduled outdoor practices inside due to rain, you can still get a feel for the Winter Classic venue in this video released by the NHL, which showcases a 360° view of the stadium.
Can you imagine this with packed stands and the perfect dusting of snow? The Notre Dame Stadium won’t be able to accommodate the number of fans in attendance for 2014’s record-setting Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium (105,491 were present as the Leafs played the Red Wings), but it has a good shot of eclipsing the second-most attended game in NHL history, which is the 2008 Winter Classic seen by 71,217.
Meanwhile, over in Russia, the KHL was able to blow away its previous attendance record with 67,770 fans in the stands of the Gazprom Arena, previously a venue for FIFA and other soccer games that was transformed into a breathtaking hockey arena.
