Whistle, by Flo Rida, was at the top of the charts. The Possession was raking in the highest box office totals. Instagram was only a couple years old, and Netflix hadn’t even been introduced worldwide.

That’s what was going on the last time Russell Wilson wasn’t under centre for the Seattle Seahawks to start a game. While Wilson sustained various injuries along the way, he maintained a flawless start record for the first nine years of his career.

In Week 5 of the 2021-22 season, Wilson sustained a finger injury when he banged in on Aaron Donald’s arm while following through a deep shot. It would mark the end of Wilson’s impressive streak at 149 consecutive games started. When Seahawks backup Geno Smith took his first snap of Sunday Night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the ironman streak for Wilson officially concluded.

The streak clocks in at 6th on that all-time ironman streak list for NFL quarterbacks.

Incredibly, it’s not the longest streak that a Geno Smith start has officially ended. Back in 2017, Geno Smith was also the first to start in place of Eli Manning, who had racked up 210 consecutive starts for the G-Men before Ben McAdoo controversially decided to bench him

If you’ve got an ironman on your team, beware of signing Geno Smith! Saying that, he did backup Phillip Rivers in 2018 and it didn’t stop Rivers from racking up an eventual ironman streak of 240 games.

Does Smith ONLY backup ironmen?
