For the second time since he was acquired by the Nashville Predators, P.K. Subban returned to the place he called home for seven seasons. The Montreal Canadiens hosted their former defenceman in what was an intense battle from start to finish. Nashville ultimately came away with a 3-2 victory after Pekka Rinne clinched the win in a shootout.

Habs fans shared mixed opinions about Subban during his time in Montreal. Some loved the 28-year-old’s unique energy while others despised it. Throughout tonight’s contest, it became apparent that his former teammate, Montreal pest Brendan Gallagher, isn’t particularly fond of the blue-liner. Gallagher attempted to throw a hit on Subban but failed to follow through, and sounded off at him after scoring Montreal’s first goal of the game. After the contest, he was asked about playing P.K. and questioned why his name was constantly being brought up.

The following is a transcription via Reddit Hockey:

“I don’t know why you’re asking about him,” Gallagher said of Subban. “I think he was- you know, they got a lot of good players. I don’t know, what was he? Mins-1 in the game? They have a lot of other reasons why we lost tonight.”

When asked about his outburst following his goal, Gallagher continued with:

He was talking, doing what he does. But, like I said, I don’t know why we’re talking about him. That’s kind of what he wants. He came in here and tried to make it about P.K. Subban, which is what he does. We’re gonna focus on our team. We lost the game. Try and regroup and go from there.”

He concluded with:

“Like I said, I don’t know why we’re talking about him. That’s what he wants. You can let him talk about himself all night. I’m sure he’ll give you guys enough lines; I’m not going to help that out.”

Wow.

When asked about Gallagher’s comments, Subban said “I’m sure it’s pretty quiet over there with two points on our side.” To add insult to injury, he then said he “didn’t see a smile from him tonight,” and that he “just saw the blood dripping down his face when he tried to hit me and fell down.”

Gallagher made his feelings about Subban pretty clear tonight, but unfortunately for him, his Canadiens couldn’t get the job done against their former All-Star. The Predators are now 2-1 since the trade.
