The Colorado Avalanche put together an incredible bounce-back season this year as they finished one win and one point shy of doubling their totals from the 2016-17 season. Although they didn’t get the outcome they would have liked in their first postseason action since the 2013-14 campaign, it was still a successful year despite the first round exit.
On Friday afternoon, members of the team traded in their hockey sticks, hockey gloves and helmets for a pair of batting gloves, a batting helmet and a bat as they hit the diamond at Coors Field to raise money for the Gold Crown Foundation; a Colorado non-profit that offers youth sports and education programs to thousands of children throughout Colorado and the surrounding states.
Since baseball is not their go-to sport, some of the players didn’t exactly shine like they would on the ice. One of those players happens to be team captain Gabriel Landeskog, who was chirped by rookie Tyson Jost almost immediately after the event wrapped up.
However, the captain did not back down and fired back an even better chirp that got the approval from Jost.
The event that the Avs took part in is called the Healthy Swings Charity Home Run Derby and they were joined by other members of Colorado-based teams including the Broncos and the Nuggets, who got pointers from members of the Rockies throughout the day.
