With 162 games in the MLB season, there’s lots of time to iron out the mistakes. While errors and slumps are bound to happen, when October rolls around you better have all your mental mistakes sorted out.
Unfortunately for the Atlanta Braves, Ronald Acuna Jr. committed one of the more frustrating mental mistakes in the game – admiring a hit.
Perhaps a little too comfortable with the 3-1 lead in the 7th, Acuna stepped up to the plate. Facing a 2-2 pitch, Acuna golfed one out to right field. In fairness, it looked like an absolute moon shot off the bat. Unfortunately for the hit-admiring Acuna, it didn’t leave the park. As a result, he ended up on 1st base.
Not quite you what you want to see during your first playoff game of the year. Taking himself out of scoring position, Acuna didn’t end up crossing the plate in the inning, and the Braves would go on to blow the lead in what ended up being a 7-6 loss.
1st baseman Freddie Freeman wasn’t happy with the effort, as Acuna has had problems with his hustle throughout the year.
Not a good look as the playoffs just get underway.
