The Toronto Raptors took advantage of a Golden State Warriors team missing Steph Curry and Draymond Green (who returned to the Bay early for rest) and defeated them handily, 119-100.
Leading the way was Steady Freddy VanVleet. In 33 minutes of play, FVV put up 27 points (including 6 three-pointers), 12 assists, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and a block. That’s what you call a stuffed stat line.
While the numbers are impressive, VanVleet’s night still fell three rebounds shy of a ‘triple-double,’ an achievement meaning a player had double digits in at least three stat categories which, while indicating a good statistical game, is relatively arbitrary.
Still, Freddy WANTS ONE!
Following the near triple-double performance on Monday, VanVleet joked with the media about his zero career Trip-Dubs. In jest, he blamed his taller teammates for not getting out of his way and allowing him to pull down boards. He comically labeled it as not getting the “Westbrook treatment.”
While it was clearly a joke, some around the Twitter-sphere didn’t quite take it that way. After seeing the backlash it had caused, VanVleet took to Twitter to clarify that it was a joke.
It's only a matter of time, Fred!!
